About the foundation
Women Empowering Women and Disabled is a Minnesota nonprofit corporation and an IRS-recognised 501(c)(3) public charity. Publicly, and on its own channels, the organization is known as the WEWAD Foundation.
How we began
WEWAD was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a world where every individual, regardless of gender, ability, age, background, tribe, or religion, is empowered to reach their full potential. Our journey began in Nigeria, where we recognized the need for an inclusive community that supports women and individuals with disabilities.
The organization was incorporated in Minnesota on February 22, 2024, with an amendment filed on April 26, 2024. Federal tax exemption took effect in August 2024. The IRS records the foundation's activity classification as International Relief (NTEE Q33) — the category that covers charities based in the United States whose programmes are delivered abroad.
That classification describes the shape of the work accurately. The foundation is registered and governed from Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and the majority of its programmes reach communities in Nigeria.

How the work is organised
The foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, chaired independently of the founder, with a Country Head directing programme delivery in Nigeria. Its legal identity, registration numbers, and the public records they can be checked against are published in full.
